How's your diary looking for this year? You'll have written in all your
loved ones' birthdays when you first got it - and your own, I hope - and are
there any holidays inked in yet? One date to put in is April 15, which is the
annual bluebell walk through the woods at Combermere Abbey. The Abbey's gardens
will be open and there will be a plant sale too.
You'll be free to roam through the woodland and alongside the lake at your
own pace; yomping out if you wish, or at a gentle stroll if you prefer. By then
the leaves will be on the trees of course, and buds will have given way to
blossom. The Bluebell Walk is two miles long and we would advise sturdy
footwear (ladies - this isn't one to do in high heels), and it's not really
suitable for prams or push-chairs.
In the fruit tree maze you'll find redcurrants and gooseberries, and
more than twenty five varieties of apple and pear trees. If we're lucky they
will all be in blossom and that's always a glorious sight.
You can also bring your dog - we're very dog-friendly here - though we
do ask visitors not to take them into the walled garden. Feel free to throw
sticks and balls!
There's masses of car parking and that's free. We will be laying on hot
and cold refreshments. The cost is a very modest £5; children under 16 are just
£2, and babies come in for free. You're welcome any time between 1pm and 4pm.
So that's Sunday April 15, just one week after Easter Sunday. Best feet
forward!
