Okay, to the very best of our knowledge Combermere
Abbey didn't make it into Le Monde or The New York Times, but in Cheshire and Shropshire we did get masses of press
coverage over our winning the Hudson's
Highly Commended award for the luxurious self-catering cottages at the Abbey.
As you may recall, Hudson's
Heritage Guides are the hugely respected guides to the great architectural
treasures of Britain.
Founded twenty five years ago, they include cathedrals, museums, castles and
country houses of all sizes and ages. Late last year the owner of the Combermere
estate, Sarah Callander Beckett was presented with the prize by architectural
historian Lucinda Lambton and critic and broadcaster Lloyd Grossman at a lunch
at the Hyatt Grosvenor Hotel in London.
To our very great delight this news was picked up by
The Crewe Chronicle, The Sandbach Chronicle, The Whitchurch Herald, The North
Shropshire Chronicle, and two editions of The Shropshire Star. This is very
kind of them and we are ever so grateful. As The Crewe Chronicle said, "The
cottages were judged against some of the finest heritage accommodation in the UK, including
castles, stately homes and manor houses".
The cottages at Combermere are available for booking
all year round, and offer the highest level of comfort, in a gloriously
picturesque and tranquil setting. There are ten cottages in all, with beds for between
four and ten people. If you wanted to book all of them simultaneously - for a
family reunion, say, or a business get-together with a difference - they can
accommodate more than fifty people. For more information, as well as prices and
